Collection consists primarily of the courtship correspondence (1888-1892) of Cusack and Rooney. The bulk of the correspondence was written while John Rooney was employed as a housebuilder and Cusack worked in the offices of Lorin F. Deland in Boston. John Rooney lived primarily in the Hyde Park section of Boston, but his work often took him to other parts of the country, including Atlanta and Chattanooga. Katharine Cusack lived in Roxbury. By January 1893 the couple had married.
